RODEO STYLE

Let me just wipe the dust off this old blog. Goodness. It's been a while.

First things first, I have become addicted to Hawaii Five-O. Like ridiculously so. I blame the cold I got in February. It had me down for the count and laid up in bed. And...on a whim I just started watching the show. And now, I can't quit. I've watched almost all 6 seasons (IN A MONTH!)....and I'm starting to panic about what I'll do between finishing this season and the time until next season hits Netflix. And then the time between that and when the new season starts this fall.

I may need to get a life.

Ahem.

In possibly less depressing news, I've also REALLY got into putting together looks or inspiration boards on Photoshop. Mostly interior design stuff (we are finnnnnallllly moving this weekend)...but also some outfit inspiration.

I thought I would share my most recent look...

shirt / jeans / boots / clutch / silver bangle / cross ring / gold bangle / bead bracelet / necklace / earrings

So fun, right? I love black and denim and turquoise. I think it's classic and timeless. And all the accessories and sparkly boots give it some sass. Y'all know I'm a sucker for cowboy boots. And the best thing about this is it could win me a free pair of boots!! King Ranch Saddle Shop is giving away a free pair of boots. All you have to do is share your favorite rodeo look on Instagram or Facebook and tag the photo #krrodeostyle by this Friday, March 31. Easy peasy!!

FRIDAY FAVORITES

It's Friday!! This week just seemed to zip by. I am so looking forward to this weekend. We have had plans every weekend, and this is the first one in a while where it is just going to be C and I. We are heading out on a little mini road and shopping trip tomorrow and I am TOO excited about it!!

Speaking of exciting...I thought I would link up with a few blogs and share my favorites for this week!

NFL Memes
1. The Dallas Cowboys won (in overtime) Sunday!!! The first part of the game was a little iffy and I was feeling the stress. By the end of the game, I was bouncing off the walls.. SO intense...but so so so amazing. I am telling you...it's SO much more fun to be a fan when you are winning!! Added bonus? C's old boss is a huge Eagles fan...so he likes to give me a hard time. He was A LOT of talk all day Sunday but suspiciously quiet on Monday!! Ha.

2. The CMA's were on Wednesday night and they were the best they have been in a while. I LOVED hearing a lot of the older music. It reminded me of my childhood. Here are my favorite looks for the night. I thought I would also share my favorite performances, but it ended up being like 10 so I'll just say again that it was awesome!!

3. I will share my favorite new song though. Little Big Town performed it at the show the other night. It's so good. And, Taylor Swift wrote it!!

4. I finally painted my nails yesterday. They were looking pretty sad. I love the look of fresh nails but I HATE painting them. Even though the fall weather is still not quite here, I broke down and painted them a nice fall color. It's "flirt" by Sally Hansen. I also love using their base and quick-dry top coats.

5. I got this magazine a few weeks ago when I was sick, but I am just now going through it. Like everything else from Chip and Joanna, it's amazing. AND....we are going there next week!! My grandmother is a huge fan of the show and she has been wanting to go to the shop for a while. C and I went last year, but it was right before the silos opened, so we are excited to go back with her!!

Have a great weekend!!

COWBOY BOOTS

Maybe it's having being born during the Urban Cowboy era, or maybe, it is just from being a Texas girl. But I confess - my love of western wear runs deep. Case in point:

looking super cute with my dad and my step-dad
Admittedly, it has been a while since I've worn a feather embellished cowboy hat or a fancy pearl snap shirt, but my love of cowboy boots remains as strong as ever. My mom  just found my first pair of little boots! I was probably wearing them in the two pictures above. And, I actually changed into a pair of boots for our reception. Much easier to dance in boots than heels! I think some western wear can be a bit trendy and easily fade into a dated fad (I mean, will you look at those hats?!) But, cowboy boots are just so timeless.

Some of my favorite girls (and style icons) have been known to rock a pair of boots. And, if it's good enough for Carrie, Miranda and Reese? It's good enough for me!

C likes to do most of his shopping at western stores. I love to tag along and make a beeline for the boots. Rows of colorful, detailed boots is one of the prettiest sites there is. And the smell of the leather? Lord have mercy.

King Ranch Saddle Shop has such a fun selection of boots. They have something classic and something a little bit more embellished ... and lots of things in between. The great thing about boots is that you can dress them up or down. I thought it would be fun to showcase some of my favorites from the store with some ideas for styling them.

shirt / leggings / jacket / necklace / earrings / cross ring / clutch / red boots
Y'all red boots?! So sassy. But so so fun for a night on the town!! I love the idea of pairing them with a leopard clutch and a cute little leather jacket but keeping the rest of the outfit simple. I'm LOVING the silver cross ring from KRSS. These boots would be great with all black as well!

sweater / leggings / cross boots / turquoise earrings
These leather boots with cross embellishment are giving me life. I think they are just gorgeous. I'm a big fan of brown leather. And crosses. They just scream comfort to me. So I paired them with a cozy sweater and leggings. Kept the jewelry simple with this gorgeous set of turquoise earnings. So fun. I would seriously wear something like this everyday!

shirt / jeans / earrings / bag / sunglasses / turquoise boots
Speaking of something I'd wear every day....denim on denim (aka the Texas Tuxedo). It is such a classic look. And how gorgeous are these turquoise boots? And this bag is may be one of the prettiest things I've ever seen! LOVE it.

Once you've got a new pair of boots, you'll need to take care of them. The sweet people at King Ranch Saddle Shop were kind enough to share these tips on keeping your boots in the best shape. They also have some leather conditioner that is amazing!

If you have read my blog any at all, you know that I am currently on a journey to better health. I am down over twenty pounds! I still have a long way to go, so I have set up some little rewards for milestones along the way. Naturally, a new pair of boots is one of these rewards. I've had my eye on these boots FOREVER. It was definitely love at first site. I mean, if I were to be a boot, I'd be this boot. And when I get them? I will wear them with everything....because that's just what you do with a signature pair of cowboy boots.

WEAR THIS ROOM

Day 2 of my Inspired Outfits challenge. I'm already struggling! Ha. Story of my life.

But, I had this cute image that I pinned earlier this week...so I thought it would be a fun wear this room subject.
source

Adorable, right?! Okay, so here is the outfit I came up with based on the above image.

shirt / jeans / jacket / earrings / bracelet / bag / shoes

I've been wanting those shoes forever. Leopard is totally a neutral. I think I'm actually going to put them on my weight loss rewards list. And the bracelet is SO fun...and it's like $8. Yay for bargains!!!

Okay, so I'm going to try to get a little more organized for the rest of the challenge....that way I'm not scrambling to get a post done in the late afternoon/evening.

Hope y'all have a great weekend!

INSPIRED BY :: JOANNA GAINES

Like everyone else that has watched the show, I'm absolutely in love with Fixer Upper on HGTV. I adore Chip and Joanna. They are just the cutest...not to mention how talented they both are. And Joanna's look always kills it. I love how she always pulls simple, classic pieces...she looks modes...but still chic. LOVE it.

So, for today's inspired look, I had to go with Joanna!
source

I just loooove it. The sweater, the boots. The hair color (ha!). Everything. So...here is my look inspired by the above picture.
sweater / jeans / boots / ring / earrings / necklace / bag / polish

Everything in this look can be purchased at Kohl's...with the exception of the bag (Target) and boots (Country Outfitter). The boots are the most expensive thing  (I think everything else added together is less than the cost of the boots)..but I LOVE LOVE LOVE them...and would definitely get my wear out of them.

I'm not much of a jeggings girl, but I think this longer babydoll sweater is perfect for covering up the trouble areas, right?! And, there used to be a hard and fast rule about not mixing leather colors. But, here I am mixing two different brows with grey and black....and I think it's okay. In fact...it's one thing I think Joanna is great at...both in her fashion and interior design skills.

So, that was a fun start for this month long challenge I'm doing. I've actually got a few more Joanna Gaines looks as well as Fixer Upper room I am hoping to use for inspiration pieces later in the month.

31 DAYS :: INSPIRED OUTFITS

I love a good challenge. Weird, considering I rarely (shamefully) complete them. I'm nothing if not persistent though.

I also love the idea of challenging myself to blog about one topic everyday for a month. Last year, I (successfully!) blogged about my weight loss journey. Side note...I'm happy to say that the journey slowly continues...I'm down almost 35 pounds.

I'm trying to add more creativity into my life. I used to scrapbook and work on my photography. Neither of which I do anymore (aside from pictures on my phone). Sadly, I spend most of my creative time working on client orders (which is fun)...but also somewhat limiting. I would love to write everyday, but there are often days that I do not have anything I want to share on the blog. And so...the idea for my 31 day challenge is born.

So a few weeks ago, I did a post entitled WEAR THIS ROOM. I basically took one of my favorite pinned images of an adorable bedroom, and created two looks inspired from the picture. I actually had a lot of fun doing it. I think it's because I combined two things I love ... inspiration and fake shopping. Ha.

Everyday, I will share an inspiration image. It may be a celebrity's look, a room, a book cover, scene from a movie, and inspired look from a fashion blogger, a piece of art...whatever. And then, I will piece together an outfit inspired by that particular image.

I LOVE this idea because it allows me to be creative. It also challenges me to think beyond yoga pants an t-shirts. I'm currently losing weight...so I'm sort of in this awkward stage of nothing in my closet fitting anymore...but I don't really want to spend money on new stuff. But, who knows...I may put together some looks I will need to go out and actually try on!

Speaking of...here are a few rules I'm setting for the challenge.

1. The outfit must be something I would actually wear. I don't mind pushing the limits a little bit...but I'm not going to be wearing flare jeans, super short shorts, or stilettos anytime soon.

2. The items must actually be from stores that I do (or would) shop at.

3. The items must also be within my budget. Even though I'm not planning on buying everything I come up with ... I may want to buy something...so let's just be realistic here.

K, that's it. I'm excited!! Thanks for following along!!

LET'S TALK :: CLOTHES, CLOTHES, CLOTHES

Today's Prompt: Share your style. What fashion trends do you love, frequent, or avoid?
one / two / three / four / five / six

I LOVE clothes. Of course, if you saw me in person, you might question that statement. I'm in (and have been in) a bit of a style rut. I work from home...which basically means yoga pants and t-shirts. I've also lost about 30 pounds (YAY!) so a lot of my clothes are too big (again, YAY). I seriously have about 4 "dress up" outfits for church or non yoga pant wearing activities. Ha.

But, something has got to give. I desperately need to break down and get some new stuff. I'm a big fan of denim (especially distressed). I don't wear a lot of dresses. I struggle with finding ones I think are flattering. I do love a good maxi dress though. I think they always look cute paired with a denim jacket.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE cowboy boots. I don't mind brighter colors but I tend to gravitate towards blacks, greys, navys, browns. I love lace. And leopard print. I also like lots of jewelry and big big bags.

I don't know if I am a trend type of girl. I like the basics. They really never go out of style.

WEAR THIS ROOM

image via Life of Grace blog
So this is one of the first things I ever "pinned" and it's probably one of my favorites. I just LOVE all the colors and patterns. It's very "me". Edie has amazing style...and her blog is a constant source of inspiration.

I was feeling icky this weekend and spent a lot (a lot) of time looking at pinterest. I stumbled upon this image again...and thought...I wonder what that room would look like translated into an outfit. I mean, I've seen that type of post several times...but I've never tried it. Until now...

shirt / shorts / shoes / glasses / bracelet / bracelet / earrings / ring / bag
I love the pink/coral/black color combo. I think that is one of the reasons the room image appeals to me so much. Anyway, this is an outfit I would totally wear. Well, I'd probably opt for capris....as I am still struggling with accepting my thick thighs. Ha.

dress / bag / bracelet / cuff / ring / earrings / shoes

How cute is this dress? I'm not typically a gold jewelry girl...but in trying to piece together these outfits...I found lots of cute gold items I would definitely wear.

So that was a fun challenge. Of course, it's pretty easy to do when you are shopping all the stores with just some imagination. The real challenge is trying to use what I currently own!! Hashtag yoga pants.

WANT THIS PLEASE : WORK OUT STUFF

Happy Saturday! It's rainy (with a temporary "cold front") here. And, I LOVE it. We are taking it way easy this weekend. We might even fit in some gym time (instead of just talking about fitting in some gym time!).

Speaking of, I thought I would share a few work-out-ish things I've got my eye on!
shirt/pants/socks/shoes/flex

If I could guarantee that buying all new workout clothes would motivate me to work out, I'd blow my budget right this second.  But, I am adding lots of these to my rewards list to motivate me. Hopefully, that will do the trick!

I'm most excited about the Flex, do any of y'all have one?

LET'S TALK ABOUT CLOTHES

I'm loving the prompts Bailey picked for blog-tember. I always went through blogging lulls in the past because I never felt motivated to post about anything. Ha. Anyway, today's topic is all about fashion trends...the good and the bad.

While I wouldn't say that I'm all that into fashion...I do like clothes...and I do enjoy looking as cute as I can. That being said...I'm in a bit of an outfit rut right now. I told myself that I wouldn't buy any new clothes till I lost some weight. And, since I have not had any success there in quite a while...things are getting kind of sad around here.

Anyway...I'm not sure I'm much of a trend follower. I've never really liked to "dress up" either. I'm a big fan of (distressed) blue jeans. And leopard print. And stripes. I think these are all pretty timeless...so hopefully...I never have to worry about being out of style.

one/two/three/four/five
I live in Texas, so cowboy boots have always been in style...but I feel like they are a bigger trend here lately. There are so many styles available...and I adore pretty much all of them. They look great with jeans, shorts, dresses, etc. I even wore cowboy boots to my wedding reception.

one/two/three/four/five
As for things I'm not loving? I don't know...I guess to each their own.

But, you won't be seeing me in super short shorts or high waisted pants any time soon. I also don't like wide leg pants. Maybe because I'm short? Not a big fan of skinny jeans either...but that is probably because there is nothing skinny about me.
